Overview
The Beef Cattle Herd Management Method 2015 (the method) sunsetted on 1 October 2025.
At the request of the Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy, the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee (the ERAC) sought feedback on the method including abatement potential, co-benefits, adverse impacts and potential improvements.
Through this review the ERAC assessed the merits of remaking this method.
The ERAC’s advice informed the decision by the Assistant Minister to prioritise a new livestock method.

Consultation period
A hybrid workshop was held on 8 July 2025 to discuss the sunsetting method, and the merits of making a new method.
The consultation was open from 7 July 2025 to 4 August 2025.
