The Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association wishes to support the final zoning and approved activities within the Murray Marine Park. The commercial fishing activity of purse-seine fishing for tuna is an allowed activity subject to approval by the Director, National Parks. We seek that this approval is signed off as a priority, in accordance with the Plan and sustainable fishing is supported to continue within the Murray Marine Park, thereby having no detrimental impact on our sector. Purse-seine fishing is highly sustainable, selective, minimises impact on the substrates and the fishery is underpinned by world-leading science and fishery management/compliance regimes.

Disallowing industrial activity like oil and gas exploration, and offshore power aligns with the objectives of the Marine Park, and supports our ongoing concerns of the impact of such activity on marine species, particularly the migration behaviour of SBT.
