7.1 Provide comments relating to the zoning design of the South-east Marine Parks network.

We are a community organisation with a particular interest into the state of Storm Bay, and the adjoining Frederick Henry and Norfolk bays. There has been a major increase in intensive aquaculture in our region, with plans for further expansion. We believe that this has had an adverse effect on the health of these waters. Further, we have little confidence in the capacity of agencies such as the Environmental Protection Authority and the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) to monitor damage and to hold the salmon companies to account. On this background we believe that there is a case for widening the boundaries of the Huon Marine Park to counter to some extent the impairment being caused by intensive aquaculture.

7.2 Which activities would you like to make comment on?

c. Commercial aquaculture

7.2.1 Provide comments about the selected activities.

We support the proposition that intensive aquaculture has no place in these parks. Further, we do not believe these companies should be allowed access to these parks for disposal of waste including dead fish, well-ship and bathing waters, cleared biofouling debris. We do not believe that well-ships should have any access to these waters.
