This first consultation on the draft South-east plan has closed.

From 20 March 2023 to 22 May 2023, the Director of National Parks sought public comment on the intent to prepare a draft management plan for the South-east Marine Parks Network. The public comment period has now closed.

A total of 13,529 campaign submissions and 40 unique submissions were received.

Taking into account comments received, the Director of National Parks will prepare a new management plan, which will be the subject of a second public comment period.

Background

The Director of National Parks is developing a new management plan for the South-east Marine Parks Network. This network includes 14 Australian Marine Parks around Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia and one in the Southern Ocean. The Director manages the parks to protect biodiversity and other natural, social and cultural values and allow for ecologically sustainable use.

The current management plan for this Network expires on 30 June 2023 but will continue to apply until a new plan is in place.

The new plan will guide management of the network for the next 10 years.
