Overview

The Nature Repair Act 2023 (the Act) came into effect on 15 December 2023, establishing a world-first legislated, national, voluntary biodiversity market.

The Nature Repair Market will incentivise actions to restore and protect the environment. It encourages nature positive land management practices that deliver improved biodiversity outcomes.

Those eligible to take part include:

  • First Nations people and organisations

  • conservation groups

  • farmers.

As we work to establish the scheme, we will be seeking your input on key elements including:

  • subordinate legislation, including legislative rules

  • methodologies

  • the biodiversity assessment instrument.

The information that you will provide will inform the development of the Market.

Note that this page shows any technical engagement opportunities through the department. The Nature Repair Committee’s formal public consultations will be listed on a separate page when they are open.

Nature Repair Market Legislation

We are working on legislative rules that will support the operation of the Nature Repair Market under the Nature Repair Act 2023.

As part of this we have

  • developed a discussion paper to test policy ideas in relation to proposed rules

Now you can share your views on the proposed policy that will inform the development of the rules, feedback that will also be considered in relation to other legislative instruments and market related products.

We will consider your feedback as we prepare for the commencement of the Nature Repair Market.

Comments are due by Tuesday, 8 October 2024.
