Overview

The Australian Parliament passed the Environment Protection Reform Bills on 28 November 2025.

We are consulting on the final stage of Australia’s environment protection reforms ahead of their commencement by 1 December 2026. The proposed reforms are designed to make environmental assessments and approvals faster and simpler and more transparent.

Once fully implemented, the reforms will:

  • streamline single project approvals

  • enable landscape approvals

  • set rules for the Restorations Contributions Holder to operate

  • improve operational approaches to all pathways and increase transparency.

We are seeking feedback on the regulations needed to implement these reforms and support a more efficient environmental assessment and approvals system.
