Overview
The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Regulations 2000 (EPBC Regulations) are Australia's main national environmental law.
The EPBC Act protects and manages unique plants, animals, habitats and places. This includes heritage sites, marine areas, some wetlands and other protected matters.
The EPBC Regulations assist the operation of the EPBC Act by supporting key processes including environmental assessments and approvals, enforcement and administrative matters, conservation, and management of Commonwealth reserves.
The current EPBC Regulations will sunset (expire) on 1 April 2026. They must be remade so they can continue to support the operation of the EPBC Act. The EPBC Regulations are being remade ‘as is’, with minor corrections to maintain accuracy and currency.
The remake of the EPBC Regulations is a separate process from the EPBC Act reforms.
We invite you to provide your feedback as part of this consultation process.
Specifically, we invite you to comment on the remake of the EPBC Regulations with regards to:
the proposed minor corrections (as set out in the Consultation Paper)
any further corrections which are not already proposed and
any other comments on the remake of the EPBC Regulations.
We encourage you to read the information in our Consultation Paper which outlines the proposed minor corrections to the EPBC Regulations before completing our survey.
If you have any questions about the consultation process or are having trouble with the form, please contact us at: EPBCregulations@dcceew.gov.au.
