The Cancer Institute NSW supports shade provision in public spaces. Overexposure to UV radiation from the sun causes over 95% of all skin cancer. Good quality shade can provide up to 75% protection from UV radiation. Two out of three people in Australia will experience skin cancer in their lives.
The proposed undercover shelter and awnings from the main building at Middle Head Oval will provide additional shade to the site, increasing protection from over exposure to UV and rain and a cooler environment on hot days.
