Overview

We are seeking your feedback on:

  • Bass Strait seabed maps

  • draft information to support using these maps.

Seabed maps help us understand marine habitat. They reveal physical features that influence where marine species are likely to occur. This helps identify areas that may be sensitive to disturbance.

Higher resolution seabed maps of the Bass Strait will support the assessment of offshore wind farms and other developments under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

The maps will help us to:

  • avoid important geomorphic features and benthic habitats

  • identify the nature and extent of potential impacts on benthic habitats

  • identify changes to benthic habitats in response to development activities.
