Overview

The Australian Government is requesting information from industry to ensure we have a sustainable and resilient supply of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).

Modern diesel engine vehicles are designed to require DEF, also known as AdBlue, to control nitrogen oxide pollutants.

The government is interested in better understanding the market for refined technical grade urea, which is the main component of DEF.

We want to further understand:

  • stocks, storage, supply chains and how the market is functioning

  • ways to promote greater market transparency to support good decision making by industry and government

  • existing sovereign capability investments, new sovereign capability opportunities and projects in the pipeline that can be brought forward

  • what industry is doing to strengthen and diversify supply chains, including from international sources.

Request for information

The request for information document [107KB PDF] [75KB DOCX] outlines what we need to know and how you can help us.

The request for information will give us a greater understanding of how industry and government can continue working together to enhance Australia's sovereign capability and supply chain resilience into the future.
