We have developed the Draft National Guidelines for the Survey of Cetaceans, Marine Turtles and the Dugong to provide national guidance for in-water surveying of cetaceans, marine turtles and the dugong.
The guidelines include the best‑practice survey techniques for determining the presence, absence, abundance and distribution of cetaceans, marine turtles and the dugong. The guidelines can be used by proponents, regulators, and other stakeholders (such as researchers, citizen scientists and community groups) when designing and undertaking surveys.
