We are inviting feedback on an exposure draft of the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Clothes Washing Machines) Determination 2022.
The draft determination introduces updated Australian and New Zealand standards for clothes washing machines. This includes new low level Minimum Energy Performance Standards.
Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards legislation
The Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) Act established a consistent, national program for appliance energy efficiency in Australia. Its purpose is to improve the energy efficiency of appliances covered by the legislation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Clothes Washing Machines Determination aims to provide consumers with better information about the energy efficiency of washing machines through the Energy Rating Label (ERL).
It sets requirements for wash performance to ensure that Australians are able to purchase a product that both operates as required and is energy efficient.
The Australian Government proposes to replace the GEMS (Clothes Washing Machines) Determination 2015 with this draft determination.
