Overview

We are consulting on options for introducing minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for commercial ice makers. If approved by Energy Ministers, these MEPS would be established under the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Act 2012 (GEMS Act).

The consultation regulation impact statement identifies a range of policy options to improve the energy efficiency of commercial ice makers, along with a cost benefit analysis for each option.

You can comment or provide data that we can use to improve the analysis underlying this review. Your feedback will help Energy Ministers decide:

  • whether to introduce MEPS for commercial ice makers

  • which MEPS option is most appropriate for Australia and New Zealand

  • the process for implementing any MEPS.

We will outline policy options in detail in a decision regulatory impact statement. We will do this before implementing any MEPS in a Determination.

The E3 Program

The Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) Program integrates energy efficiency standards and labelling requirements for equipment and appliances. This cross-jurisdictional program is run by:

  • the Australian Government

  • Australian state and territory governments

  • the New Zealand Government.

The GEMS Act underpins the E3 Program.
