Overview
The department is consulting on 4 determinations under the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Act 2012 (GEMS Act) that are due to expire by 2025.
It is the standard process for determinations to expire after they have been in place for 10 years.
Determinations may be renewed if a review finds sufficient reason for a determination to continue. Systematic reviews of determinations ensures the regulation remains cost effective and is still achieving greenhouse gas emission reductions.
The E3 Program
The Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) Program is a cross jurisdictional program. The Australian Government, states and territories and the New Zealand Government collaborate to deliver a single, integrated program on energy efficiency standards and energy labelling for equipment and appliances.
Why We Are Consulting
Four of the determinations regulated under the GEMS Act have been reviewed. These determinations are all due to expire by 2025 and were reviewed for their effectiveness and efficiency.
This review was an assessment to understand if the determinations should expire, be renewed unchanged or be revised.
Determinations that are identified as suitable for revision may be subject to a Regulation Impact Statement process.
Your feedback is sought on this review. Please let us know if you have relevant data on any of the products that could be used to improve the review.
