On Friday, 28 March 2025 the government assumed a Caretaker role. Some consultations have been deactivated until further notice, in accordance with the Guidance on Caretaker Conventions.

Overview

We are consulting on how star ratings and MEPS (minimum energy performance standards) are calculated for swimming pool pumps. The energy efficiency of these pumps is already regulated under the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Act 2012 (GEMS Act). The issues paper outlines options for making star ratings better reflect actual performance.

Online Forum

There will be an online forum where we will present a summary of the issues and options under consideration. There will be an opportunity to ask questions during the forum.

Please email GEMSProductReview@dcceew.gov.au by Monday, 17 March 2025 if you would like to attend.

The E3 Program

This work is being progressed through the Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) Program. The Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) Program integrates energy efficiency standards and labelling requirements for equipment and appliances. This cross-jurisdictional program is run by:

  • the Australian Government

  • Australian state and territory governments

  • the New Zealand Government.

The GEMS Act underpins the E3 Program.
