The Australian Government have committed up to $55.6 million in measures to improve the health of the Upper Murrumbidgee, which includes:
$20.3 million for a river health and monitoring program. This will be delivered through a Federation Funding Agreement with ACT and NSW
$5.3 million to support a review of the Snowy Water Inquiry Outcomes Implementation Deed
Up to $30 million to support additional water releases in drought-like conditions.
On 20 June 2024 we released the Improving the health of the Upper Murrumbidgee: Draft Strategy for public consultation. The Draft Strategy outlined how the above measures will work together alongside existing initiatives to improve the short and long term health of the upper Murrumbidgee River.
We sought feedback on the proposed strategy, particularly the implementation principles and workstreams.
We received 25 submissions from industry groups, First Nations, academia, catchment management groups, the community, land holders, individuals and the government.
Read the submissions.
We analysed the submissions and took the feedback into consideration when finalising the Strategy.
The final Strategy to improve the health of the Upper Murrumbidgee is published at Strategy to improve the health of the Upper Murrumbidgee.
