Established in 1954, Mawson Station is the oldest, continuously occupied Australian Antarctic station. It is Australia’s first station south of the Antarctic Circle. In 2004, the Australian Heritage Council listed Mawson Station as a Commonwealth Heritage place for its unique demonstration of the evolution of building methods in Antarctica, and insights into early station life.
We are developing a new heritage management plan for Mawson Station and invite comments on the draft management plan from members of the public, key stakeholders, community groups and Indigenous people with an interest in the place (Regulation 10.03C, Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Regulations 2000).
