Overview

We are seeking feedback on an information document for the red goshawk to support best practice environmental impact assessments under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

This work aims to:

  • provide clear expectations to help proponents and ecological consultants prepare assessment information

  • enable efficient assessment by regulators.

The document has been informed by a literature review of the red goshawk and new research about its behaviour and ecology. This is provided in an accompanying research report.

It outlines the key regulatory components that need to be addressed in an assessment process, including:

  • habitat definitions

  • survey requirements

  • impact evaluation

  • avoidance and mitigation strategies

  • suitable offset pathways.

Adhering to the information is not mandatory. Proponents that do apply the information are likely to have a smoother assessment experience.

The information document is intended to be finalised and released under the reformed EPBC Act. The document may be updated after this consultation period to ensure alignment with legislative instruments as they settle.

We are seeking your feedback on the Draft EPBC Act information for the red goshawk. The research report for the red goshawk is provided for reference.

Feedback received during the consultation period will be considered when finalising the documents.
