Overview

This consultation seeks your feedback on a draft information document and survey guidelines for albatross and petrels under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). They outline how to identify and manage potential impacts on albatrosses and petrels associated with offshore wind farm proposals.

This work aims to:

  • provide clear expectations to help proponents and ecological consultants prepare assessment information.

  • enable efficient and robust assessment by regulators.

The documents have been informed by a literature review and new research about seabird behaviour and ecology.

The documents cover:

  • species information

  • impact evaluation

  • avoidance and mitigation strategies

  • best-practice seabird survey methods.

Adhering to the information is not mandatory.

Proponents that do apply the information are likely to have a smoother assessment experience.

We are seeking your feedback on:

  • draft EPBC Act information for albatrosses and petrels in relation to offshore wind farms

  • best-practice survey guidelines and data standards for albatross and petrels.

Feedback received during the consultation period will be considered when finalising the documents.
