Published submissions

On 12 March 2024, the Department released the National Adaptation Plan Issues Paper for consultation. Submissions closed on 11 April 2024.

This is the first step in developing a National Adaptation Plan for Australia.

The issues paper provided:

  • context for the adaptation plan, including roles of different levels of government and the private sector in adaptation

  • proposed foundations of the adaptation plan

  • a closer look at climate risk and adaptation across 8 key systems of the economy and included a summary of action already underway, and possible future directions for mainstreaming adaptation

  • questions to prompt consideration and input on the broad elements of the adaptation plan and how to strengthen action already underway.

Responses to the issues paper, along with follow-up consultation and results of both stages of the National Climate Risk Assessment, will inform a draft adaptation plan for public comment.
