Published submissions
On 12 March 2024, the Department released the National Adaptation Plan Issues Paper for consultation. Submissions closed on 11 April 2024.
This is the first step in developing a National Adaptation Plan for Australia.
The issues paper provided:
context for the adaptation plan, including roles of different levels of government and the private sector in adaptation
proposed foundations of the adaptation plan
a closer look at climate risk and adaptation across 8 key systems of the economy and included a summary of action already underway, and possible future directions for mainstreaming adaptation
questions to prompt consideration and input on the broad elements of the adaptation plan and how to strengthen action already underway.
Responses to the issues paper, along with follow-up consultation and results of both stages of the National Climate Risk Assessment, will inform a draft adaptation plan for public comment.
