Overview
The Emissions Reductions Assurance Committee is reviewing the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative—Beef Cattle Herd Management) Methodology Determination 2015 (the beef herd method) against the Offsets Integrity Standards set out in the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011.
The beef herd method provides incentives for managers of grazing cattle herds to introduce one or more new or materially different activities that reduce the emissions intensity of their herd(s). At the time of publication, there are 10 projects registered under the method.
Method reviews are undertaken to ensure methods continue to meet the scheme’s offsets integrity standards, including that emissions reductions credited through the scheme remain genuine and additional.
The Committee has prepared a discussion paper to outline the scope of the periodic review and to outline key considerations for public consultation, to inform the review.
The Committee invites submissions from the public on the method’s compliance with the Offsets Integrity Standards and any other issues with the method.
The Committee will consider submissions then prepare its advice to the Minister for Climate Change and Energy based on the outcomes of its review.
