About the review
On 5 February 2026, the Minister for Climate Change and Energy announced a review of the governance arrangements of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
Since its foundation in 2009, AEMO’s functions as an independent market body have expanded. The energy landscape has also changed rapidly during this time, and continues to evolve.
The review aims to ensure AEMO’s governance arrangements remain fit for purpose now and into the future.
As part of this work, consultation was held from 13 February 2026 to 6 March 2026.
Stakeholders were given an opportunity to give written feedback on a range of topics.
Public submissions will help inform the recommendations of the review.
