About the review
On 5 February 2026, the Minister for Climate Change and Energy announced a review of the governance arrangements of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
Since its foundation in 2009, AEMO’s functions as an independent market body have expanded. The energy landscape has also changed rapidly during this time.
AEMO plays a critical role in our energy system. It is timely to review AEMO governance arrangements to ensure they remain fit for purpose now and into the future.
We invite stakeholder feedback on the discussion paper and the review Terms of Reference.
