Overview
We are inviting members of the public to provide feedback on proposed updates to the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) scheme by making a submission through this public consultation process.
Proposed amendments
Proposed amendments cover the following:
renewable fuels including co-processed liquid fuels
fugitive emissions from coal mines and oil and gas, including:
updating the Australian Standard for gas desorption testing under Method 2 for estimating emissions from the extraction of coal from open cut mines
updating Method 2A for flared emissions of methane and nitrous oxide from oil or gas exploration and development
expanding the availability of Method 2B (mass balance approach) for flared emissions from gas extraction and development sources
updating Method 2 for emissions from natural gas transmission
updating Method 3 for emissions from natural gas distribution to account for hydrogen content
emissions of methane released from landfills and wastewater handling
scope 2 emissions
other changes.

The Expert Panel on Atmospheric Measurement of Fugitive Methane Emissions, and
Controlled Methane Release Study.
