Overview
The Minister for the Environment calls for nominations to the National and Commonwealth Heritage Lists each year.
Places on the lists must display outstanding heritage values. These values are detailed in the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The EPBC Act protects these places once they are listed.
Anyone can nominate a place for the National or Commonwealth Heritage Lists.
Nominations must set out the heritage qualities or values of the place. We need to know why the place has outstanding heritage value to the nation.
