Overview
To support the implementation of the Safeguard Mechanism reforms we are reviewing existing production variable definitions to ensure the production variables incentivise low emissions production, as well as finalising remaining production variables and industry average emissions intensity values.
We are consulting on the exposure draft which would amend the Safeguard Rules to give effect to the first tranche of these technical amendments.
The reforms to the Safeguard Mechanism commenced on 1 July 2023. These reforms will reduce emissions at Australia’s largest industrial facilities and maintain their international competitiveness as the world decarbonises.
