Overview

On 24 February 2023, the Energy and Climate Change Ministerial Council (ECMC) agreed to a Review of the National Hydrogen Strategy to ensure it positions Australia on a path to be a global hydrogen leader by 2030 on both an export basis and for the decarbonisation of Australian industries.

Hydrogen has the potential to be an important contributor to our transition to net zero through use in areas such as industry, transport, grid firming, chemicals and metals production. We also have up to $300 billion of potential hydrogen investments in the pipeline, the largest in the world. While Australia was the third nation to publish a hydrogen strategy in 2019, the hydrogen opportunity has emerged from the relative fringes to generate international excitement and more than 30 nations have now released hydrogen strategies.

We want to hear your views on how Australian governments can ensure we have a national strategy that is fit for purpose for our evolving hydrogen industry.
