About the proposal
This proposed Wildlife Trade Management Plan (WTMP) has been prepared by the Northern Territory Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (DLPE). It is being considered for approval as a WTMP under section 303FO of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The proposed WTMP covers the management of the sustainable use of the saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) in the Northern Territory for the purpose of commercial export. The proposed arrangements are underpinned by the requirements of the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976, the Northern Territory’s broader Management Program for the Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) in the Northern Territory of Australia 2024-2034, and the EPBC Act. The WTMP also aims to ensure crocodiles are treated humanely in accordance with the Code of Practice on the Humane Treatment of Wild and Farmed Australian Crocodiles.
If approved, the proposed WTMP will remain in place for up to 5 years from the day after the date of its declaration.
