Which of the following best describes you?

General member of the public

Which of the following best describes your standpoint on the proposed area being declared for offshore renewable energy?

Opposed

Please outline any benefits, issues or concerns related to the environment for offshore renewable energy projects in this proposed area.

My strong concerns are that the overall "carbon footprint" of these turbines in mining raw materials, processing, manufacturing, transporting and construction is not taken into account. Additionally the environmental impact of maintenance, replacement and disposal of consumables (eg highly dangerous gearbox oils), and negative impact of local and migratory sea life will be severely disrupted if not decimated.

Please outline any benefits, issues or concerns related to onshore transmission, or the community such as traditional land ownership, the local economy or tourism sector for offshore renewable energy projects in this proposed area.

It has been noted in numerous reports and documents that sea windfarms have a significant negative effect on sea life, rendering the volume, variety and even thoroughfare traffic noticeably reduced. The Hunter Region has numerous long established ocean based food supply, tourism and recreational businesses which rely entirely on the sustaining of marine life which will be impacted by these offshore wind turbines

Please outline any benefits, issues or concerns related to recreational or commercial fishing for offshore renewable energy projects in this proposed area.

Already touched on previously

Please outline any concerns or regard for the visual impact of potential offshore renewable energy projects in this proposed area and any suggestions on how to manage the visual impact.

My concern is the substantial negative ocean view from land ex Newcastle. I have seen numerous such windfarms in the US and offshore and there is nothing aesthetic or visually attractive about them

Other

Please outline any other benefits, issues or concerns you have regarding offshore renewable energy projects in this proposed area, which have not been raised above.

These wind turbines emit a significant low frequency hum which has been commented and complained by numerous farmers with these turbines on their grazing land. There have been aberrations in animal behaviour, diminished milk production and even farmers advising of disturbed sleep patterns. Since water is a denser medium low frequency sound will be transmitted through water more "efficiently" with less resistance, a greater broadcast area and a far greater distance of effectivity affecting who knows what marine life starting with the bottom of the food chain such as plankton...the basis of oceanic life.
