Overview
We are seeking feedback on proposed new requirements for native vegetation regeneration projects under the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF).
The proposal would introduce a new category of excluded offsets projects, for projects that would have an adverse impact on agricultural production or local communities. It would also improve monitoring of compliance with rules to manage pests and weeds.
It would apply to proposed new projects, and expansions of existing projects, under 2 ERF methods:
human-induced regeneration
native forest from managed regrowth.
The proposed amendments would be made to the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Rule 2015. See details of the proposed amendments and how these would operate in the consultation document.
Following this consultation, the Minister for Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction may make the proposed amendments to the rule, which would then be registered on the Federal Register of Legislation.
