Receipt of Final Report for the Independent Review of the Inspector-General of Water Compliance
On 30 January 2024 the Final Report of the Independent Review of the Inspector-General of Water Compliance was handed to the Australian Government.

The Government has considered the recommendations and observations made in this report, including consultation with the Inspector-General of Water Compliance.
The Government’s response to the Report’s recommendations has now been released.
The consultation and submission period has now closed.
On 14 September 2023, the Government announced that it was undertaking an independent review of the Inspector-General of Water Compliance (IGWC). This is part of its commitment to strengthen water compliance in the Murray-Darling Basin.
Mr Peter Harris AO was appointed to lead the independent review to ensure the IGWC has the relevant powers to carry out its functions. The IGWC was established by amendments to the Water Act 2007, which came into force on 5 August 2021.
