On Friday, 28 March 2025 the government assumed a Caretaker role. Some consultations have been deactivated until further notice, in accordance with the Guidance on Caretaker Conventions.

We are inviting feedback on an exposure draft of the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Rotary Clothes Dryers) Determination 2022.

The draft determination introduces updated Australian and New Zealand standards for clothes dryers.

Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Legislation

The Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (GEMS) Act established a consistent, national program for appliance energy efficiency in Australia. Its purpose is to improve the energy efficiency of appliances covered by the legislation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Rotary Clothes Dryers Determination aims to provide consumers with better information about the energy efficiency of clothes dryers through the Energy Rating Label (ERL).

It sets requirements for drying performance to ensure that Australians are able to purchase a product that both operates as required and is energy efficient.

The Australian Government proposes to replace the GEMS (Rotary Clothes Dryers) Determination 2015 with this draft determination.
