We are bound by the Australian Privacy Principles in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). The Privacy Act regulates how we may collect, use, disclose and store personal information. We also hold personal information in accordance with the Archives Act 1983 (Cth).
We use technology by Converlens Pty Ltd to provide this consultation service and website. Our contractual arrangements require Converlens to comply with the Privacy Act and store data securely in Australia.
What personal information will be collected
Personal information means information or an opinion about an individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether or not it is true or recorded in material form.
Sensitive information is a subset of personal information and attracts a higher level of privacy protection. Sensitive information includes information or opinions about an individual's racial or ethnic origin (e.g. indigeneity), a political opinion or association, religious beliefs or affiliations, trade or professional associations and memberships, a criminal record and health information.
By submitting a response to this consultation, you consent to the department collecting your personal information and sensitive information provided in your response. This may include:
your name, where you are located, email address, telephone number and details of the organisation you are representing which may include your membership of a trade or professional association
your opinions on the Gas Market Review and current regulatory framework and how the review may impact your organisation or business.
How we will use and disclose your personal information
The department will use any personal information provided in your submission to:
determine your views on the outcomes and effectiveness of the current regulatory framework
assess the potential impact of outcomes or recommendations from the Gas Market Review on market participants and the broader community
identify the views of relevant stakeholders and their industry
contact you about your submission, including for further information, feedback or to carry out further consultation or engagement
inform you about the outcomes of this consultation process and/or other matters that we consider may be relevant to you.
The personal information provided in your submission may be disclosed to:
departmental staff from DCCEEW, DISR and Treasury responsible for the delivery of the Gas Market Review
external consultants engaged to support the review process such as legal advisors or economists
the Prime Minister’s Office, the offices of the Energy, Resources and Industry Ministers and the Treasurer and their staff
select staff from other Commonwealth agencies and entities involved in operation of the gas market including, but not limited to, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
select staff from State and Territory Government agencies and entities
select staff from non-government entities involved in the operation of the gas market including, but not limited to, the Australian Energy Market Operator and peak industry bodies.
for the purpose of:
informing the development of findings and recommendations from the review
informing the development and implementation of recommended reforms or new government policies
preparing a review report
consulting with Ministers and the Treasurer on matters related to their portfolios including as required by the Competition and Consumer (Gas Market Code) Regulations 2023
activities related to the above.
We may also disclose your personal information where authorised or required by law.
