Suggestion for minimum energy performance standards
My house is powered in part by solar panels.
I also have a battery which for most of the year extends the supply of those panels into the evening by storing power produced during daylight hours and releasing it after the sun has set.
More often than not, I can be selling or ‘giving away’, excess power to what I’m using or can store during the middle of the day.
In my house I have a lot of appliances that have standby power which constantly uses power
24/7.
My thought is, why don’t each of those appliances use power collected during the middle of the day and use it to power their standby function during the night.
This shouldn’t be hard for a TV, we already have batteries in the remote, so why not have batteries in the TV itself.
There are batteries in my smoke detectors but why not adjust them, so that they only draw power in the middle of the day?
The refrigerator may be more challenging but who knows until they put their minds to it.
As for other white goods, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, dryer they mostly only have the clock showing and there is the modem, which seems to have lights flicking all the time regardless if devices are being actively used or not.
